Oyster Rock Lighthouse, Karnataka

Near Karwar Beach there is an island termed as “Oyster Rock”. British built a lighthouse atop this island in the 1860s. The lighthouse started its operations in 1869, designed by James Walker, a renowned Scottish civil engineer and architect. Made of cast-iron plates, it stands at a height of 21 meters.

The lighthouse is situated on a small rocky island that is accessible only by boat. This island, known as Oyster Rock, is located about 7 kilometers off the coast of Dona Paula in Goa. Its historical significance is highlighted by its age, unique construction material, and the fact that it was designed by a notable figure in engineering history.
