About Bankot Fort

The word Bankot means fifty-two forts. Bankot Fort or HimmatGad used to be under British control, until Shivaji Maharaj annexed it and added it to the Swarajya states. The fort stands on the bankot brook, where the famous river savitri meets the gigantic Arabian Sea. Bankot rivulet was a major sea trade route in ancient times. The prehistoric caves named Dasgaon and Mandangad  speak out the same story. Bankot fort is also known as Himmatgad and Fort Victoria.
