About Asigarh Fort, Hisar

Fort of Prithiviraj or Asigarh Fort is situated in the Hansi Town of Hisar District. It was built by the renowned Rajput Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan in the 12th Century. Presently it has entirely been transformed into just a mound spreading over 30 acres of land. A long pillared construction above the mound is said to be known as Baradari. Char Qutub Dargah, mosque was build inside the fort premises after the Prithviraj was defeated. It was re-established in 1798 by an Irish mercenary when India fell in the hands of the British Army. After the 1857 revolt the castle was deserted and destroyed again.  In 1937 the edifice was listed under the label of Protected Monument of National Importance by the Archeological Survey of India. During the 1982 excavation 57 Jain idols were retrieved from the fort which adds more to archeological significance Hisar District is illustrious for.
